watched a fascinating demo at the League show yesterday of raku fired pottery. I love the unexpected results of the process. He takes the pot out of the kiln while it's still red hot and pours various liquids (water, red bull) on it, and buries it in wood shavings as it cools. this creates variations in color and textures in the glaze (as well as a lot of smoke). the results are colorful and unpredictable. I bought a turquoise pot with a lid that was decorated with metallic splotches.
